Hot air balloon tours in Dubai always start very early (at dawn, there is no other way!). You will be picked up from your hotel at 3–4 a.m., taken to the meeting point in the desert, and given a safety briefing. You will find yourself in a makeshift camp, sitting with a cup of coffee and watching as a large fan transforms something shapeless into a real hot air balloon. As soon as this miracle takes a vertical position, you need to quickly “board the balloon, sir/ma’am.” It’s about 5:00 a.m. — the time depends on when the sun rises.

The baskets are spacious, seating 15–20 people, and are divided into zones. The most beautiful views open up after dawn, when the balloon descends slightly and the sun illuminates the dunes. You can start snapping photos of the desert from above (few people have such photos) and simply admire the stunning views of nature.

The landing is not the softest: you are asked to sit down a little and hold on tight. The pilot looks for a flat spot, the balloon touches the ground, and then it is dragged a little across the sand, leaving tracks. So be prepared to land sideways in the basket, this is normal.

After landing, you are taken to a Bedouin camp, where breakfast is served. It’s pretty good, something like a buffet — definitely better than what you get on a regular safari in Dubai.
